Accountant Resume: Precision Gets Interviews
An accountant resume is judged on precision before anything else — vague bullet points read as a red flag in a field built on getting numbers exactly right. Every line should carry a real figure or a named system.
What actually makes a difference
- Lead with your certification status (CPA, CPA-in-progress, EA) right under your name — it's one of the first hard filters on both ATS software and a hiring manager's first skim.
- Replace "managed accounts" with the actual scope: portfolio size, monthly close timeline, transaction volume, or dollar value of budgets you owned.
- Name the software stack precisely (QuickBooks, NetSuite, SAP, Excel/VBA) — many finance postings filter directly on the exact platform, not just "accounting software."
- If you've ever caught an error, tightened a close process, or cut reporting time, that's a real accomplishment line — "cut month-end close from 8 days to 5" beats "detail-oriented" every time.
