Help Desk Resume: What Gets You Hired
A help desk resume gets skimmed by an IT manager who's read a hundred "proficient in Microsoft Office" lines this month and skips right past them. What gets a callback is proof you can close tickets fast and keep users unblocked, not a list of software you've heard of.
What actually makes a difference
- Lead with your certifications (CompTIA A+, Network+, ITIL Foundation) in the header — many IT departments and MSPs filter on these before reading a single bullet.
- Turn "resolved technical issues" into a number: tickets closed per day, first-call resolution rate, or average resolution time against an SLA.
- Name the ticketing and remote-support tools you've used (ServiceNow, Zendesk, Freshservice, TeamViewer) — many postings screen for the exact platform their team runs.
- If you've supported a specific environment (Active Directory, Office 365 admin, a fixed device count, or a helpdesk tier level), say so directly — "Tier 1/2 support for 500+ end users" reads as real scope, not a vague duty.
