HVAC Technician Resume: What Gets You Hired
An HVAC resume gets sorted by certification status before a service manager reads a single bullet — EPA 608 and NATE credentials decide whether you're even qualified to touch a unit. After that, what separates a callback from a pass is proof of real systems you've worked on, not a list of general duties.
What actually makes a difference
- Lead with your EPA 608 certification type (Universal, Type II, etc.) and any NATE certifications — most postings won't consider an applicant without EPA 608 listed up top.
- Name the systems and brands you've serviced (Carrier, Trane, Lennox) and the scale (residential split systems vs. commercial rooftop units, tonnage range) — "HVAC repair" alone tells a hiring manager nothing about what you can walk into on day one.
- Quantify your service volume: calls completed per day, first-time fix rate, or install count per month — real numbers read as more credible than "experienced technician."
- Name the software you've used for dispatch and invoicing (ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro) — many companies filter directly on the exact platform their techs run.
