Build a Data Scientist Resume That Gets Interviews

Free templates, ATS keywords, and resume tips written specifically for Data Scientist roles.

Data scientist resumes are judged on whether a model actually shipped and mattered -- a portfolio of notebooks and coursework reads very differently from a project that changed a real business metric in production.

Skills ATS looks for in a Data Scientist resume

Python (pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow)SQL & data warehousingStatistical modeling & hypothesis testingMachine learning & model deploymentA/B testing & experimentation designData visualization (Tableau, matplotlib)Big data tools (Spark, Hadoop)MLOps & model monitoring

What actually makes a difference

  • Lead with the business metric your model moved (revenue, retention, fraud caught) -- not just the algorithm used; hiring managers filter on outcomes first.
  • Name your exact stack (Python, PyTorch, scikit-learn) -- "machine learning" alone is too vague to pass most ATS keyword filters.
  • State whether your model shipped to production, not just a notebook or proof of concept -- deployment experience is a real differentiator.
  • If you've published, open-sourced, or presented your work, link it -- for this field, a visible portfolio outside the resume genuinely gets checked.

A short "Selected Projects" section with 2-3 named models and their measured impact often does more work than a long tools list -- lead with outcomes, not techniques.
